In response to the current spread of Coronavirus, the Iowa Supreme Court has imposed new case management guidelines to Iowa divorce cases. Pursuant to the advisory order entered on March 14, 2020, by Chief Justice Christensen, all current Iowa divorce trials and hearings set to commence before May 4th may go forward as scheduled. However, the trial courts shall freely grant continuances for good cause. The advisory order also provides that Iowa courts may conduct conferences or hearings using video or phone conferencing when they believe it would be practical and efficient to do so. The advisory order does not impact any Iowa divorce filing procedures or timelines at the present.
